no idea what the format of this is supposed to be but whatever. i also don't really know much html but again whatever (although, i really wish i could work out how to change the colour). oh, and i suck at grammar, spelling, life, just about everything really...
SINGLES
chromeo - night by night
sounds pretty much like chromeo always do, which is a good thing. catchy, 80s sound, unnecessary use of talk box, etc. the chromeo dj kicks cd was also released recently. good fun but a little lacking in err... good songs
thumbs up
black eyed peas - meet me halfway
how do you follow up the best pop single of the summer? like this
thumbs up
LCD soundsystem - bye bye bayou
never heard the original so can't compare but i'm not a fan of this version (though pitchfork has probably already given it 11 out of 10). james murphy as usual has his head half way up his own arse but this time he seems to have found some annoying vocal effect up there to inflict upon us. repetitive, minimal, DFA standard beat throughout
thumbs down
vampire weekend - horchata
yawn..... calculated, knowing, pretentious, annoying vocals, but yeah i guess it's okay
thumbs down
tegan and sara - hell
pleasant enough but doesn't really do anything at all to be honest. sounds a bit like the con but worse. you could say 'what did you expect from tegan and sara?' and you would probably have a very good point
thumbs down
ALBUMS
to kill a petty bourgeoisie - marlone
having enjoyed their last album 'the matron' i had pretty high expectations for their lastest release. only given it one listen so far but i find it pretty disappointing. they've toned down the 'noise' and gone for a smoother, easier sound, which seems to have somewhere lost some of what i previously liked about them. might come around to it though
thumbs down
HORSE the band - desperate living
while they hardly reinvent the wheel, HORSE the band are 10 times more interesting than most hardcore (or whatever style you want to call them, who cares?) bands around. maybe it's the stupid keyboards. i'm absolutely loving 'desperate living' the song, the middle part is genius. dumb fun
thumbs up
the fall of troy - in the unlikely event
urgh, this is just plain terrible. DELETE. DELETE. KILL. the vocalist seems to have at least attempted to rectify his questionable vocals but failed miserably and in fact probably sounds worse. the production is poor and well i can't listen to this anymore. yuck
thumbs down
